Granular Flow and Clog in Silo with Moving Exit

In this talk, I shall give a brief review on gravity driven granular flow through silos and hoppers. Phase transitions--dilute to dense [1], dense to clogged [2]--of flow on reducing the size of the exit, will be examined. Other factors such as modification of the exit [3], vibration [4], ... that affect the flow rate and clogging will be discussed. New experimental data on preventing clogging by the motion of the exit will be presented [5].
