One-step Green Synthesis of Graphene Oxide Quantum Dots by Pulsed Laser Ablation

Commercial grapheme oxide has been used to prepare grapheme oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) by pulsed laser ablation . The photoreduction and cleaving processes of grapheme oxide nanosheets occur during irradiation of the pulsed laser .The synthesized products were examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confirming the presence of GOQDs with dimensions of an average size of 14 nm. The GOQDs exhibit an excitation-dependent photoluminescence in the visible range, similar to that of carbon-based materials. According to the relationship between chemical structure of GOQDs and their corresponding photoluminescence, we suggest that the defect states with oxygenous functional groups are responsible for the photoluminescence from GOQDs. Compared to other synthesis method, the proposed method is one-step, low-cost, time-saving, and environmental-friendly, and can be performed at room temperature in ambient atmosphere.
