Optical data transmission for the ATLAS phase-I upgrade trigger electronics

Data transmission with optical links is discussed for applications in radiation hazard environment of the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Radiation damages to opto-electronics, including laser diodes, PIN diodes and driver chips, are caused by ionizing dose and bulk damages. The custom design transmitter is described for applications in the ATLAS Phase-I upgrade trigger electronics for the Liquid Argon calorimeter and the New Small Wheel Muon Spectrometer.
