2014 Nobel Prize in physics goes to three scientists working on semiconductor technology "for the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources". The semiconductor materials used are nitrides, AlN, GaN, InN, and their alloys. The remaining question is what else we can do about nitride semiconductors, further in-depth understanding of the materials to optimize the device performance and more device applications other than the “blue light-emitting diodes”? Will your ingenious thinking and works create another huge impact for the next Prize? After the introduction of the current status, I will present some of our lab’s work on nitrides and discuss on the prospects and challenges in the coming years.
