High Energy Magnetic Excitations of Bi2Sr2CaCuO8.15 Revealed by Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering

We measured the RIXS spectra of optimally doped cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCuO8.15 (Bi-2212) at the AGM-AGS inelastic x-ray scattering beamline (05A at the Taiwan Light Source, NSRRC). The Cu L3-edge RIXS spectra of energy loss below 1 eV are dominated by broad and dispersive magnetic excitations. The features of these magnetic excitations are similar to those of spin-wave-like paramagnons. On the contrary, the RIXS spectra measured across O K-edge show no contribution from magnetic excitations. We only observed different dd excitations with different incident photon energies in the pre-edge of O K-edge.
